lovely chrissie ornaments

the pretty pattern on the back

Super easy and beautiful white clay Christmas ornaments. I bought the clay at an art supply shop for $15, I used air dry clay. All you need is a rolling pin, some letter stamps, a skewer to poke a hole and piece of string for hanging. I love them!

roll out the clay press a doiley pattern into it cut it out with a cookie cutter stamp a little word into it let it air dry and hang it on the tree

The Fremantle Arts Centre Bazaar was on this weekend. One of my favorite markets at my favorite Freo venue. The Arts Centre is a gorgeous and inspiring space in itself, and once a year it is packed full of designers, artists and other creative folk who are selling their beautiful handmade things. The stall displays are as gorgeous as the items for sale. The stand-out for me was a stall by a guy selling recycled beer bottle mushrooms. They looked amazing all huddled together. Like they had sprouted up then and there out of the log stump they were perched on. I discovered Christine Lovitt – an artist after my own heart, a ‘vintage paper artist and creator of curious cabinets’. I adored her little paper creations, using old story books and whimsical illustrations. Seeing all the lovely handmade things has given me so many more ideas of things I want to try. Next year I’m going to have a go at using felt, some screen printing and some more paper art.

Last year my MoM colleagues and I had our own stall. We had a year hiatus but I hope that we can do it again in 2011. I love the Christmas decorations we made, the dove is my favorite, laser cut from bamboo and adorned with pretty glass beads. There was only one left, and I have it hanging in my kitchen window all year.

Moore & Moore, Henry Street, West End, Fremantle

After an early morning trip to a new playground in Melville (post about that coming soon) a babycino was in order. We toddled on down to one of the best coffee digs in Fremantle. Moore & Moore on Henry Street in the West End. It’s hidden away in the old Moore’s building and has an ever-changing gallery space. I love the vibe, it’s relaxed and friendly and reminds me of being in Europe. Mister E was a gem, I was able to sit and drink my chai tea while he had great fun playing the the old bicycles they have laying around. Despite little man tipping pepper all over my raspberry and rhubarb tart it still tasted yummy. Best of all after our busy morning he fell asleep in the car, so I can chill while he is snoozing. There’s nothing more beautiful than a sleeping toddler.
