The Fremantle Arts Centre Bazaar was on this weekend. One of my favorite markets at my favorite Freo venue. The Arts Centre is a gorgeous and inspiring space in itself, and once a year it is packed full of designers, artists and other creative folk who are selling their beautiful handmade things. The stall displays are as gorgeous as the items for sale. The stand-out for me was a stall by a guy selling recycled beer bottle mushrooms. They looked amazing all huddled together. Like they had sprouted up then and there out of the log stump they were perched on. I discovered Christine Lovitt – an artist after my own heart, a ‘vintage paper artist and creator of curious cabinets’. I adored her little paper creations, using old story books and whimsical illustrations. Seeing all the lovely handmade things has given me so many more ideas of things I want to try. Next year I’m going to have a go at using felt, some screen printing and some more paper art.

Last year my MoM colleagues and I had our own stall. We had a year hiatus but I hope that we can do it again in 2011. I love the Christmas decorations we made, the dove is my favorite, laser cut from bamboo and adorned with pretty glass beads. There was only one left, and I have it hanging in my kitchen window all year.
