a brief trip to Darwin

Baby D and I had a fleeting and fabulous couple of days in humid, tropical, beautiful Darwin.

While we were there we enjoyed many things. Spending time with old friends and seeing family. A trip to the weekend markets at Parap and Nightcliff where we indulged in mango and coconut milk lassi’s, veggie and noodle laksa’s, frozen mango and pineapple iced treats.

It was hot and humid, but the upside of course is the rain. There is so much water pouring from the sky this time of year and I was in awe of how luscious and green it all is. Without any effort everyones verge is bursting with thick green grass and the streets are lined with giant coconut trees and palms.

Having been away for a few years I noticed things I didn’t before. The sky seems so open and vast. I think it’s because Darwin is mostly low-lying and flat, so you see more of the sky. There is no traffic! It was so nice to drive around with out the stresses of busy crowded roads.

It was only a few days but I feel reinvigorated, I have that after holiday glow. The question is how do I hang onto that feeling?

Hmmm, maybe I should start planning another holiday…

  1. How to hang onto that feelin? I try and figure that out every time. And I think the answer is to immediately book in the next coupla holidays while you still remember why it’s so good. I lived in Darwin during one whole wet when I was travelling around OZ. God it was amazing. And Awful! – know what I mean?

I know exactly what you mean, Darwin seduces and repels me at the same time! I wish I was there during a thunderstorm, one of the best sky shows nature has to offer, I love those thunderstorms. I have another holiday booked in a few months, but it seems like a long time away!
